Vintage Polish Posters | Na Bosaka | Stankiewicz

Witold Gombrowicz (1904–1969) was a Polish writer and playwright. His works are characterised by deep psychological analysis, a certain sense of paradox and absurd, anti-nationalist flavor. In 1937, he published his first novel, Ferdydurke, which presented many of his usual themes: problems of immaturity and youth, creation of identity in interactions with others, and an ironic, critical examination of class roles in Polish society and culture. He gained fame only during the last years of his life, but is now considered one of the foremost figures of Polish literature. Gombrowicz wrote the opera “Na Bosaka”, but no information was found about this work. The poster artist Eugeniusz Get-Stankiewicz (1942-2011) was born in Belarus, and passed away in Wroclaw, Poland. Between 1945-1960, he lived in Wschowa, where he attended schools and the Society of Amateur Visual Artists. In 1961-1966, he studied architecture at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, and in 1966-1972, graphic design at State Higher School of Visual Arts in the same city, in the workshops of Stanisław Dawski and Maciej Urbaniec. In the 1970s, he was an art director of the Ossolineum publishing house. In 1982-1985, he led the printmaking workshop at the Wrocław State Higher School of Visual Arts. He was associated with Wrocław throughout most of his life, becoming one of the artistic emblems of the city, being one of the so-called ‘Wrocław Four’: Jan Aleksiun, Jerzy Czerniawski, Jan Sawka, and Get-Stankiewicz. His artwork is in museum and private collections around the world.
