Woyzeck is a stage play written by Georg Büchner, who wrote wrote the play between July and October 1836, yet left it incomplete at his death in February 1837. The play first appeared in 1877 in a heavily edited version by Karl Emil Franzos, and was first performed in Munich on 8 November 1913. Since then, Woyzeck has become one of the most influential and most often-performed German plays. Due to its unfinished nature, the play has inspired many diverging adaptations. The poster artist here is Wieslaw Rosocha (1945-2020), a Polish illustrator and graphic designer who attended the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts from 1969 to 1974. Rosocha cooperated with many cultural institutions in Poland. He is the author of posters for performances in Warsaw theaters such as the Ateneum, Wielki, Nowy, and the Krakow Opera. He created many film and exhibition posters, and some for the Poster Museum in Wilanów. He was awarded the Bronze Medal “Gloria Artis” by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in 2005.
